This time of year people
will tell you “Christmas time is here” In the Elite we say, “Playoffs are here.”
Rave of the Week
Sons of Thunder. 8th Season.
8. Eight years later and I still have no idea who is Darius,
you guys…
I have no unique story for how I met Francois as I met him,
Steve & Justin all at the same time. There is no one quite like Francois so
meeting him among a group really doesn’t matter. We’ve been boys ever since and
when he came back from Spain, I immediately introduced him to the game of
fantasy football that we secretly play like Chess: Intelligence. Strategy. Forethought.
Ploy. Observation. Minimal mistakes. He reads, writes, raps, disserts, lifts…I
can’t think of one thing that he doesn’t do well if he decides to do it. I’ve
learned many of life lessons from him both on and off the playing field.*
When he first joined the league, he came in with a witty
poem and marched right to the Superbowl. Each year it’s obvious he knows how to
play the game, unfortunately, life is not that easy. Our league is rich with
statistical history. Since 2007, this how my division has played out for who
will represent the West in the Superbowl and it’s usually been a rinse and
repeat of these three teams:
2007: Heartbreak Kid
2008: Sons of Thunder**
2009: Heartbreak Kid
2010: The Bane
2011: Limited Edition
2012: Heartbreak Kid (beat
Limited Edition)
2013: Heartbreak Kid (beat
Limited Edition)
2014: Sons of Thunder (beat
Heartbreak Kid)
Each and every year the Sons of Thunder is right there; we
shall see how this week plays out…
*We did GM a real life football team together; we’re
definitely better at fairyland football. Heh.
**2008 Limited Edition was in the Superbowl; this was before
we made division vs. division.
Rant of the Week
After ten years, I think it’s time for some change in the
Elite. George Bush was still President when these rules were first made,
people. It’s time to add a new level of complexity to the game. I’ve come up
with a few recommendations that I think we could add to next year’s game without
changing everything.
Keeper League
-
A great GM decision should be rewarded so this
is how we would slowly transition it into our league: every team keeps one
player at the end of 2016. The goal is to keep the highest valued player at the
lowest valued position when you took them. I drafted Matt Forte 9th
in the 1st round. In order to keep him, I would have to surrender my
first round pick. Tyler Eifert was a waiver claim, meaning I would skip the 15th
round. Hence, Eifert has more value, than Forte.
Point per Reception
-
Let’s sadly face the facts, this league has
become a passing league so this is how we would slowly transition it into our
league: .20 points for every reception. If Antonio Brown finishes the game with
10 receptions, he would finish the game with an additional 2 points. It’s a
great way to recognize today’s leading high volume players and just think what
it would do to the RB value.
Five Team Bench
-
One reason our waiver pool is shallow is because
we allow the bench to be too deep. The most RB or WR you can actively play each
week is 3, yet our rules allow you own at least 6. This is how we would slowly
transition it into our game: 5 man bench allows for 2 RBS, 2 WRS or additional
QB, DST, K, etc. We’d replace the final slot with an IR for a hurt player you don’t
want to drop.
I’m out like some unfortunate GM this weekend…
