Tuesday Morning Hangovers

“Grandpa told me he wants to play fantasy football…” – Maucus #weeksixteen
Rave of the Week I

In the second worst Superbowl game I’ve ever put forth (the other resulting in a loss), the Heartbreak Kid becomes the first back to back Superbowl champ. No one else would knew this, but midway, I was THIS close to calling it a season. Seriously. I was in 9th place through seven weeks, even if I won the next week I’d only be 3-5…what possible chance did I have at even making the playoffs? It’d be easy to say now that I knew it all along, but I did not…(I knew I had a high scoring assemble of players) Giving up should never be an option, not in life, not in fantasy football because you can never know what will happen.

Rave of the Week II

Last week Hery wrote a comical post about how if I won I’d, “thank my twitter followers, take a picture and etch my name, again…” all true. Therefore I decided to do something different this year...I went to public school throughout high school which meant I didn’t get to play any varsity sports due to religion. I’ve always wanted to own a letterman jacket and while I was scrolling through GQ I noticed Cam wearing a custom jacket. I did my research and came away with a fantastic idea…”I’m going to make a letterman jacket with all of my winnings on the sleeves!” Brilliant. On the left sleeve I’ll place two “2009” (I played won two leagues that year) and on the right sleeve I’ll place “2012” and “2013.” They all will be in the shape of footballs and will include the championship score! I haven’t decided if I’ll put an “H” or “R” on the front…but hopefully it’ll be complete by the start of next season (I’ve already ordered the jacket).

Rave of the Week III
After winning this year, my Dad presented me with a football signed by Jamaal Charles, my fantasy MVP! He got a football signed by Jamaal Charles and our conversation went like this…me:Wow! He really signed that for you?” Dad: “Yes.” Me: “Did you get that for me?” Dad: “No.” Me:Can I have it, anyway?” Dad: “No.” Me: “Can I touch it?” Dad: “I’ll let you take a picture…” So turns out I only got to touch a football signed by Jamaal Charles…but would you believe my Dad didn’t even care? He told me he’d rather a jersey of Dexter McCluster because “he runs back touchdowns” that’s what is more exciting to him (I told him, he got the better deal…) If we all go to a Chiefs/Broncos game, I'll try my luck. The guy won me two Superbowls, I kind of have to name my kid after him...

Rave of the Week IV

On another note, my step-grandfather is also a diehard Chiefs fan. He knew I had Charles and he knew the second half of the season success I was having which prompted him to reach out to Maucus because he wants to join our league. As flattering as that sounds, he won’t be joining the Elite. However how cool would it be to say your grandpa plays fantasy football? So next year I’m going to start a family league; there are enough of us for 8 man league plus 2 guys trying to marry into the family. I don’t know why I’ve never thought of it before, but it should be fun. The bravado in my family…(evil laugh) I’m going to crush them like grapes.

Rant of the Week I

This year I learned a very important lesson…don’t be selfish. At face value I drafted a good team: Charles with the fifth selection, Eddie Lacy in the sixth round, Ryan Matthews in eighth round (all three finished the year top ten at their respective positions). Then things got better when I selected Josh Gordon and Zac Stacy off waivers. From day one I had a solid team, but I wasn’t satisfied with solid, I wanted a “great” team. When I traded away Gordon and Lacy it was because I thought Steven Jackson would give me a SUPER team. There’s nothing wrong with enhancing components that are weak, but if you get to selfish, karma will find a way to foil your greed.  Going forward, I’m simply playing the game to win, no more Super anything because after all of my foolish trading away, the team that won it for me wasn’t even that super.

In conclusion, as I said at the finale of the regular season, it’s been a great, great year.

I’m out like 2013…see you next year boys!
